New trailers: It, Justice League, Game of Thrones, and more. I can't resist films that look as gorgeous and intimate as By The Sea. So even though it didn't get all- that- great reviews when it came out a little over a year ago, I had to watch it now that it's streaming on HBO. The cinematography is just wonderful. And the film sets up a fascinating dynamic where one couple spends half the movie spying on another couple, letting you see two stories at once, all while the threat of the snoopers getting caught creates more and more tension.

It's one of the smartest things Angelina Jolie does with the movie. And while there's certainly room for criticism, it very much makes me want to see her do more quiet films like this — there's something fantastic about Jolie being able to singlehandedly give her projects a powerhouse writer, director, and star. Luc Besson — the director behind The Fifth Element — returns to sci- fi epics this summer with Valerian. It looks colorful, huge, strange, and maybe very fun. The film comes out July 2. No one wanted a sequel to An Inconvenient Truth, but unfortunately, one is dearly needed. The destructive effectsofclimatechangearebecomingeverclearer, and while the world is moving toward a cleaner future, there's still far too much resistance; not too surprisingly, the documentary seems to find an obvious villainin President Trump and his regressive environmental policies. The film comes out July 2. Paris Can Wait. Eleanor Coppola has directed plenty of documentaries over the years, but for the first time here, she's stepped behind the camera to direct a feature film (which she also wrote). Paris Can Wait has a simple premise, but it looks funny and charming and has already received some warm reviews. It comes out May 1.

Spider- Man: Homecoming. Marvel put out a second trailer for Spider- Man: Homecoming this week, and this time, it's really playing up the dynamic between Peter and Tony Stark — who, if everyone's being honest, may be enough of a draw on his own to get people into theaters. The film comes out July 7th. War for the Planet of the Apes. The Planet of the Apes franchise is on a roll, and director Matt Reeves (who also did Cloverfield) has returned for another one. War looks like the biggest, most action- packed entry yet, but it also looks like it's still maintaining the beautiful scenery and focus on ethical quandaries that made the past entries more than just another summer movie. I leave the choice of watching it up to you — as someone who has no idea what happens in this movie, I'm not entirely sure what I just watched, but I definitely know that I liked it. The film comes out July 7th. War Machine. War Machine is one of the splashier movies Netflix has coming up: for one, it stars Brad Pitt. But it's also a satirical look at the United States' work in Afghanistan, and this trailer shows the film's willingness to be direct about the army's failings. It comes out May 2.
